Broken

A couple of years ago, we scored this sweet mid century deer at an auction. We placed it under the chair in front of us, and later on we forgot about it and accidentally knocked it over, breaking it. We gathered the pieces and lovingly put it back together, and now it makes us smile because of the love and patience we showed each other at the moment of the accident.

We’ve been quieter on -ISH social media lately. It’s been a time of resting and restoring ourselves after the holidays and planning for this new year. We are normally very conscious to keep a positive presence on social media, but life isn’t perfectly positive, so we’ve been quieter.

To be completely honest, it’s been a season of brokenness for us. We have been good (somewhat) just to get through our daily lives this past several months, leaving us with little energy to do anything extra like blogging or creating social media posts.

We aren’t ready to share our pain publicly (and may never be), but what we do want to share is the blessing in it. The awareness of God’s presence with us through this season. We have experienced more love and kindness from friends, family, and complete strangers—people who have NO idea how badly we hurt. Kind thoughts shared, acts of kindness expressed, words of appreciation spoken…it’s been overwhelmingly humbling. We call them “God nudges,” signs that He sees our pain and sends people to love on us.

We are all broken. Listen to those gentle nudges to show love to others. It makes such a difference.
