I’m not gonna lie. I teared up when we had the winning bid at an estate auction on this crazy quilt several months ago. It belonged to a ninety-something retired schoolteacher from California who had passed away and her belongings sat in storage for over ten years. They were shipped to Illinois for the auction, and we just wish that we could ask her what the story is behind this crazy quilt.
It’s another example of story in objects that we love. It has the years 1914, 1915, 1916, and 1917 (WWI, oh, my goodness!) embroidered on it along with initials, names, and pictures. Some names are strategically placed in couples. (Who were they?) We truly believe it to be some high school classmates. The naivete and whimsy make us smile and add a richness to our personal home decor.
